Self-awareness in The Color Purple

  The Color Purple,the most representative novel of Alice Walker,won both the national book award and the Pulizer prize for fiction which are the highest prize for literature in 1983.This work concerned gender politics and individual.It presents the endurance of domestic violence in black women especially from the black men.At the same time,it records that the protagonist,Celie,insulted by a skinny man,grew up to be an independent woman herself.For Celie,the friendship between women is the most important on the way to become independent.
