Domestication and Foreignization: A Unity of Opposites in Cultural Translation
Domestication and foreignization do not repel each other if we take into consideration the synchronical and diachronical factors affecting the translator.Rather, they are complementary to and interdependent on each other; and they may convert to one another in accordance with the changing of conditions. From the dialectical point of view, they are a unity of opposites. In this light, the translator has to strike a flexible point between the two,so as to have a good control over the degree of either one.
