Two-step Isothermal Glass Molding Process for Aspherical Glass Lens

A new two-step isothermal glass molding technology for aspherical glass lens was proposed. The heated glass ball which has the same weight with the designed aspherical lens is directly pressed to desired aspherical shape. In the first step, the glass ball is pressed by spherical mould under a higher temperature near the softening point to obtain a suitable preform glass which is best fitting with designed aspherical lens.In the second step, the prefabricated glass is pressed by aspherical mould under a lower temperature between the yielding point and the transition point to finalize the final aspherical lens geometry.Finite element simulation is used to compare and analyze the key process factors such as molding cycle, molding productivity, residual stress, profile deviation of lens between traditional molding and the new molding process. The results shows that the proposed process may enhance production efficiency, reduce product cost, residual stress/strain and the profile deviation of formed lens.Furthermore, it may prolong the service life of ultra-precision aspherical mould and improve the stress/strain distribution.
