Magnetic Polishing of Stainless Steel with Machining Center
The plastic components that are used in various fields such as electric device or automotive are typically fabricated with an injection molding.This mold is usually polished after a shape fabrication by cutting or grinding, to obtain a high surface accuracy.On the other hand, the mold is currently polished by loose abrasive method that use a lapping machine, or hand process.However, in the case of polishing a complex shape, it is difficult to maintain a high form accuracy.Therefore, in this study, magnetic polishing method that is control a ball end-mill type tool made of a permanent magnet by using a machining center is proposed.In this report, since two types workpiece made of stainless steel that has a plane shape and an aspherical shape were polished with proposed method.
