The Empirical Study of Relationship Between Patent and Performance in Traditional Chinese Medicine Enterprises
Under increasingly competitive market, the patent can help enterprises gain competitive advantage or even a monopoly position, especially in pharmaceutical industry. Traditional Chinese Medicine enterprises is the main component of pharmaceutical industry in China, we will test the effect of patent on corporate performance in Traditional Chinese Medicine enterprises to find the relationship of patent and performance in this pharmaceutical sub-industry. We selected the listed companies of Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets from year 2006 to 2010 as samples, collected their financial data and patent data, using factor analysis to study the relationship between number of patents and corporate performance. The results show that the performance of listed companies of Traditional Chinese Medicine manufacturing enterprises and number of invention patents, utility model patents and design patents are not significantly correlative. We discuss the results and give some managerial advices.
