Analysis of Two Strategies in Skill Development Based on Resource Based View and Best-fit Model
Acquiring and developing skills in a hypercomeptitive market has become the key to success. In this paper, two strategic tensions of skill development in the firms: cost effectiveness (Best-fit model) and capability to change (Resource-based view) have been stated. It is suggested that skill development should not be restricted by the current competitive position—firms should continuously invest in skill development for future strategy. Furthermore, the issues of general skill investment, psychological contract and knowledge sharing are also critical for the firm to gain longer-term competitive advantages in the market.
