An analysis of causes of shortage of migrant labor in China
This article analyzes the reasons of shortage of migrant labor in three different perspectives from the direct causes, indirect causes to fundamental causes. The direct causes of shortage of migrant labor are that the final income gap of migrant workers between the eastern and western region is decreased and after the Spring Festival, the demands for migrant workers in eastern and western region are both significantly increased. The indirect causes are because of the improper structure of supply and demand, unreasonable employment mechanism and lack of migrant workers rights. The fundamental reasons are traditional culture and long-term impact of national policies, such as the household registration system, one-child policy and national regional development strategies. Shortage of migrant labor is a result of the interaction between these factors which can not be viewed in isolation.
