1 A growing awareness With a special emphasis on the aural/oral skills in the current college-English teaching reform, there has been an increasing concern among scholars over English pronunciation instruction to non-English-major undergraduates (NEMUs). A number of scholars have pointed out the necessity to enhance the present situation of pronunciation instruction in college-English teaching: Sun and Jiang (2002), Fu (2003) and Gong (2006) analyzed the negligence of pronunciation instruction in English teaching; Tian (2006) and Tan (2006) enumerated the pronunciation problems with NEMUs; Guan (2005) and Wu (2006) argued over the necessary content of pronunciation teaching.
