Tutor Feedback in Online English Language Learning:Tutor Perceptions
Feedback,a key element in formative assessment, has long been deemed “the life-blood of learning(Rowntree,1987).This study intends to investigate online tutors’perceptions of roles and the importance of tutor feedback in learning.their dispositions toward assignment marking and previous experiences of being trained on providing feedback in the e-learning environment, and their perceptions of good tutor feedback in practice. An online questionnaire was administered, the result of which revealed that the majority of the tutors befieved in the value of detailed feedback on assignments.Nevertheless, half of them were uncertain about whether learners read and made use of the feedback provided. The findings yielded a complex picture of tutor perceptions about tutor feedback, with significant implications for the design of subsequent tutor training programs and feedback provision in the e-learning environment.
