The Impact of Cultural Difference on Transformational Leadership: A Chinese Culture-Based Model

Drawing on the premise that leadership theory is culture-bound and Basss (1985) model of transformational leadership, the current paper proposes a conceptual framework in which cultural value differences influence the emergence and the effectiveness of transformational leadership behaviors.This Chinese culture-based model takes Chinese traditionality as a core antecedent of transformational leadership behavior and an important moderator between transformational leadership behaviors and leader effectiveness. The theoretical and practical implications of the model are discussed.
