Conformal Coatings and their Increasing Importance for a Safe Operation of Electronic Assemblies
The topic of stress factors and their resulting failures has gained in importance not only in the automotive sector. Electronic assemblies are exposed to continuously undesirable environments .Besides the mainly purely thermal processes the combined load tests must also be considered. On the one hand this refers to thermal cycles over a broad temperature range that lead to thermal mechanical stress and on the other hand the combination of moisture stress on top of the pure thermal load. Besides the purely physical processes chemically irreversible degradation processes can also take place. It is evident that a safe protection of the assembly even under high thermal and moisture loads can be achieved by means of suitable coating materials.
