Plasma Treatment on Wool Fabric and the Properties Comparison

In this study, the wool fabrics were treated by plasma. The power was set as 100 W and 200 W,and the treatment time was 60 s,120 s and 180 s,respectively. After treatment, the apparent morphology of fibers, the mechanical properties of fabrics and fabric surface elements were tested and compared with the untreated samples. The results showed that after plasma treatment,by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)observation, the scales on the surface of the wool fibers were etched and the edges of the scales were passivated.Compared with the untreated fabrics, the treated fabrics had higher strength and elongation at break in the warp and weft directions.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)results showed that when the output power was 100 W and the treatment time was 180 s,the Ols content reached the highest value of 26.72%and O/C ratio was 0.47.And the content of C—C/C—H on the fabric surface decreased, while the content of C—O and C=O increased remarkably.
