Glycerol as a Plasticizer to Enhance Electromechanical Properties of Polyurethane Dielectric Elastomer Composites
Dielectric elastomers have a broad development prospect in micro actuators and smart wearable devices due to their excellent electrical-mechanical energy conversion characteristics.However,its electric drive performance is limited by high voltage,which is not favorable for practical applications.In this paper,glycerol is added to polyurethane matrix as a plastici-zer,and by breaking the hydrogen bonding structure of polyurethane,new hydrogen bonds are formed to improve the intermo-lecular chain slip ability and dipole polarization ability of polyurethane,and the effect of lowering the elastic modulus and rai-sing the dielectric constant is achieved to reduce the high voltage limitation.Finally,30%Glycerol-Thermoplastic polyure-thane(GLY-TPU)has good electro-mechanical properties,with high dielectric constant(20.10)and low modulus of elastic-ity(4.54 MPa),a large actuated strain of 9.24%has been rendered at 23.30 V/μm,which is more than 11 times higher than pure TPU(0.83%)under the same electric field.
