Research Progress of Pure Keratin Regenerated Fiber
Keratin is one of the most abundant biodegradable and biocompatible materials in nature,but it has not been wide-ly applied because it is difficult to dissolve.The regeneration of pure keratin fiber has been studied since the 1940s,but the fiber strength is not ideal(less than 115 MPa).In this paper,the methods of keratin dissolution and regeneration in the past are reviewed.It is considered that the past research mainly focused on the extraction of keratin macromolecules.Because the chemical bonds that maintain the conformation of the macromolecules are destroyed in the extraction process,the keratin macromolecules are in a random coil state,which brings difficulties to the regeneration and the strength of the regenerated fi-ber is poor.This paper proposes that the dissolution of keratin should be shifted to the extraction of the microstructure of kera-tin,such as the extraction of protofibrils,to obtain high molecular weight keratin solution and maintain α structure of kera-tin,which can lay a good foundation for the regeneration of high-performance keratin fiber.At the same time,dry jet-wet spinning can further improve the fiber properties.
