Microstructure Reconstruction of Polyvinyl Alcohol and Silk Fibroin Membranes Mediated by Wool Keratin and Silk Fibroin Au Nanoclusters

Wool keratin(WK)and silk fibroin(SF)were used as reducing and stabilizing agents respectively to synthesize Au nanoclusters named as WK&SF@AuNCs which exhibiting a strong red fluorescence. The composite membranes were ob-tained by mixing SF,PVA(polyvinyl alcohol)and WK&SF@AuNCs,with stable fluorescence and excellent mechanical properties. The formation of microscopic network structure is due to hydrogen bond crosslinking between PVA macromolecular and protein peptide chains, which stabilized the membranes'fluorescence properties by fixing WK&SF@AuNCs in this nano cage and improved their mechanical properties. With the stretching of the membranes, the crosslinking among the hydrogen bonds were opened, the microstructure was transformed from α-helices to β-pleated sheets. The strong red fluorescence mem-brane is important for potential uses in fluorescence labels in anti-counterfeit and visual detection.
