Surface Modification of Woven Wool Fabrics for Improvement of Wearability

  Wool fabrics have been gradually developed for summer fabrics,owing to the unique cooling properties.However,due to the existence of scales and grease on the surface of the wool fabric,its quick-moisture absorption and conductivity are poor.Mercerized wool with good contact comfort was selected for hydrophilic modification by putting in a hydrogen peroxide a-queous bath to obtain better wettability,which further improved the wet comfort of wool fabrics.As the scales of the surface of the modified wool fabrics were further eroded,the surface grease was removed,and the hydrophilic groups increased.Com-pared with the original mercerized wool fabrics,the treated wool fabric had excellent moisture absorption and conductivity,since water contact angle(CA)and the wicking height were changed from 109° to 0° and 0.8 cm to 8.5 cm,respectively.These are all conducive to improve the wet comfort of wool fabrics,making the body skin dry when sweating.
