Evaluation on Performance of Data Gloves Based on Strain Sensing Yarn

  Data gloves are smart wearable devices that combining textile technology and sensor technology,which are widely used in the field of gesture recognition.At present,data gloves mostly use rigid sensors,so that they have poor comfort and relatively bulky equipment.Textile strain sensors can easily bend,fold and stretch,so they are more suitable for flexible inte-gration.In this study,a strain sensing yarn with a sensing range suitable for finger motion was selected in terms of the analy-sis on finger motion,and it was sewn into the knit glove at the joint with the largest bending strain of each finger,herewith a full-textile data glove was prepared.The sensing properties of the strain yarn was firstly measured,and after that the perform-ance of data glove was evaluated.The results show that the sensing yarn has good stability and reproducibility under the less than 40%tensile strain caused by human hand movement,and the accuracy of the data gloves can reach 84.5%for 36 ASL signals.This provides inspiration for the design of full-textile data gloves with good performance and wearability.
