Research on the Development and Mechanical Properties of Warp-Knitted Sports Fabrics for Racing
In racing sports,the performance of competition suits will have a certain impact on the final competition results of athletes,especially the skiing and speed skating events that need to cover the whole body.Therefore,the research and devel-opment of elastic fabric with drag reduction,comfort properties and durability will help to improve the performance of ath-letes.Six warp knitted fabrics with different relief patterns were developed by using multi-bar structures in this work.Two guide bars threading 150D/72F polyester filaments were used to form raised hexagons on the ground fabric knitting with either one or two ground guide bars threading 20D/30D spandex polyester covered yarns.The special relief patterns on the fabric surfaces show great potential in drag reduction for competition suits.In addition to drag reduction effect,the durability and comfort properties of suits are important to achieve good performance in the competition.Tensile tests were conducted for the fabrics on a universal mechanical tester to obtain the load-displacement relationships.The breaking strength,elongation at break and the strength at each 10%of the strain from 10%~60%were calculated and compared.The results showed that the fabrics knitted with one ground guide bar had higher breaking strength,higher elongation at break and smaller strength per 10%of strain from 10%~60%than those knitted with two ground guide bars.Therefore,the fabrics knitted with one ground guide bar possess better comfort properties and durability.
