A Self-Healing Hydrogel Based on Chitosan Oligosaccharides/Oxidized Konjac Glucomannan

Skin health is very important to human body.Facial cosmetics can effectively replenish skin moisture and remove oil on the skin surface.Gel facial masks are currently one of the most popular facial cosmetics used to maintain healthy skin.In addition, the self-healing gel mask can prolong the lifespan of the material and form a safer and longer-lasting product. In this study,Schiff base reaction was used to prepare a hydrogel, which not only has self-healing properties, but also has bio-compatibility,adhesiveness and antibacterial properties. This hydrogel is formed by the reaction against oxidized konjac glu-comannan and chitosan oligosaccharide. In addition, the gelation reaction is completely completed in a deionized water envi-ronment,which further to ensure the safety of the hydrogel and reduces the irritation to human body.FTIR,SEM,and gela-tion time experiments were carried out to evaluate the relationship between the structure and morphology of the hydrogel. The results of the spectrum indicated that the aldehyde group of the oxidized konjac glucomannan and the amino group of the chi-tosan oligosaccharide undergo a Schiff base reaction to form a hydrogel.Rheological tests show that the hydrogel has self-heal-ing properties and can be completed within a few minutes. Thus,we have established a new hydrogel material that can be used in facial masks or medical dressing applications.
