Fabrication of Hydrogel/Cotton Fabric Wound Dressings with High Water Absorption and Remarkable Antibacterial Capabilities

  Developing hydrogel wound dressings with antibacterial activity and water absorption ability is an urgent need in biomaterial sciences.In this study,a new dressing was developed that had a two-layer structure of zwitterionic hydrogel and antibacterial cotton fabric.Owing to the zwitterionic groups,the zwitterionic hydrogel not only exhibited high swelling ratio up to 47.74 times but also possessed suitable adhesiveness.The morphologies of the hydrogels were confirmed to be a porous and interconnected network structure by SEM.With the quaternary ammonium salt group and double bond modification,the ac-quired cotton fabric had not only excellent antibacterial properties but also the double bond to react with the double bond of hydrogel by free radical polymerization.Remarkably,the hydrogel/cotton fabric wound dressing displayed broad antibacterial activity against S.aureus and E.coli.The results indicated that the hydrogel/cotton fabric wound dressing provides a new prospect for the field of medical dressings.
