Research on the Dou Ou Garden in Fuzhou in the Ming Dynasty
The Dou Ou Garden is a private study garden built by the prime minister of the Ming Dynasty—Ye Xianggao in his hometown,Fuqing,Fuzhou.Based on the historical documents and images, combined with on-site survey and mapping methods, the study analyzes the garden and draws the following conclusion:the garden was built for the purpose of"hermit in between"and serving guests. The site selection of the garden considered that the site was flat and the scenery of mountains and Ruiyun tower could be borrowed. The intention of the garden was to show the richness of nature in a small space. The layout structure, rockery arrangement, buildings construction and plant artistic conception in the garden not only conform to the changing characteristics of private gardens in the late Ming Dynasty, but also highly present the regional characteristics of Fuzhou. Therefore, the study of the Dou Ou Garden is of great significance to the study of Fuzhou and even Min-School gardens in the Ming Dynasty.
