Study on Stockholm Style,the Park Design Style that Inherits the Philosophy of Swedish Modern
Recently vitality of private sectors has been introduced in urban parks.However,parks are important social capital and it is considered that further understanding of park planning and design is required.This paper examined a park design style called Stockholm Style established in the 1930s.The aim of this paper is to clarify uniqueness of Stockholm Style from perspective of Swedish Modern that is Swedish design style including modern architectures,mass-produced industrial designs,and daily necessities established in the 1930s,and examine the reason why Stockholm Style was recognized as a unique design style in international context.From literature survey,philosophy of Swedish Modern was summarized in three ideas:social democratic idea,modernist idea,regionalism idea.Moreover,the three ideas were found in Park Program that showed the concept of Stockholm Style.According to analysis of photographs and explanations of the actual characters of the parks,the result suggested that uniqueness of Stockholm Style was based on the philosophy of Swedish Modern.In conclusion,a hypothesis was formulated that Stockholm Style can be positioned within the larger and the more general design trend of Swedish Modern and the kinship in their philosophies made Stockholm Style unique in international context.
