Impact of Open-Air Incineration of Agricultural Waste Hindering Rural Landscape on Air Environment
Social changes resulting from declining population and aging society cause changes in settlement space in rural villages. The steadily increasing back-to-farm population is also affecting the value of space in rural villages. The reckless development in rural communities not only disrupts the landscape of rural space but also aggravate air pollution in connection with agricultural and livestock environment. Therefore, agricultural plastic film waste is also perceived as a key factor to the rural landscape and air pollution issue.Among the impact of reckless development on rural space, this study aims to focus on agricultural plastic film waste disrupting rural landscape, mainly on SOx and NOx,which are key precursors to the secondary generation of fine dust. The incineration test was repeated three types for each type of agricultural plastic film waste,The test results confirmed that while LDPE-based agricultural plastic film waste generated a high concentration of pollutants in the incineration process,HDPE-based agricultural plastic film waste generated a low concentration of pollutants. This study confirmed that the negligence of agricultural waste and incineration in open air, which are factors undermining rurality, could aggravate adverse impact on Korea's air environment.Therefore,follow-up studies on the foregoing are necessary.
