NEW DEVELOPMENTS ON RCC MATERIALS AND MIX DESIGN
The design of RCC mixes has developed in the last years towards more workable mixes that allows a much more simple consolidation in the placement than those mixes that were frequently used in early ages.This simplicity has derived in a better in-situ quality,an optimized design of the RCC dam faces and a cost effective construction methodology.New specifications required to achieve this goal have been prepared for the RCC materials and mixes.On this regard a set of guidelines and recommendations has been included in the Chapters on Materials and Mixture Proportions of the new Bulletin on RCC Dams (2019) that has been published recently by ICOLD.An overview on these Chapters is presented in this paper with special focus in the high-workability mixes approach.
