IMPACTS OF LIFT JOINTS AND AGGREGATE SIZES ON TENSILE PROPERTIES OF RCC
To provide an better understanding on how to obtain correct design parameters to ensure an accurate RCC dam safety analysis, this paper studies the potential impacts of coarse aggregate sizes and lift joints on the tensile strength, ultimate tensile strain and tensile modulus of elasticity of RCC.The following major conclusions are supported by the experimental results: 1) The tensile strengths of RCC are more susceptible to the lift joint weakening effect than the ultimate tensile strains;2) The aggregate size effect has a significant impact on evaluating the design tensile strength of RCC;3) Compared to tensile strengths, the tensile moduli of elasticity of RCC are much less susceptible to the existence of lift joints;4) Compared to tensile strengths, the tensile moduli of elasticity of RCC with or without lift joints are basically independent of aggregate size effect.
