Effect of inoculum types on thermophilic and mesophilic solid-state anaerobic digestion of empty fruit bunches for biogas production
Effect inoculum types on biogas production from semi-continuous solid-state anaerobic digestion (SS-AD) of empty fruit bunches were investigated under mesophilic and thermophilic condition.Digestate from liquid-state digester and solid-state digester were used as inoculum for SS-AD.Liquid digestate inoculum has methane production of 30% higher than solid digestate inoculum.Thermophilic SS-AD achieved fast reductions of cellulose and hemicelluloses during the first 10 days compared to mesophilic SS-AD.Maximum methane production rate from thermophilic and mesophilic SS-AD was 21.8 and 6.8 ml CH4 g-1 VS d-1,respectively achieving from liquid digestate inoculum.Bacteria community structure in thermophilic and mesophilic SS-AD of empty fruit bunches was dominated by Thermoanaerobacterium sp.and Clostridium sp.,respectively.Achaea community structure in thermophilic and mesophilic SS-AD of empty fruit bunches was dominated by Methanosaeta sp.andMethanoculleus sp.,respectively.Liquid digestate was suitable inoculum for SS-AD of empty fruit bunches for biogas production.
