Localization of liquid content correlated to degradation zones in a full-scale dry anaerobic digestion digester (30 m3) by electrical resistivity tomography
The liquid content is an essential parameter in the dry batch anaerobic digestion to optimize the biogas production. In fact, the liquid recirculation can distribute nutrients, water, microorganisms and temperature. The electrical resistivity method is a non-intrusive method and typically used as to detect and locate liquid content in landfills.Technical adaptations were necessary to map spatial distribution of inoculum in dry batch anaerobic digestion.Three measurement campaigns were carried out in a 30 m3 dry digester at different times of anaerobic digestion.Inversion and modelling of measured resistivity were made by RES2DINV software to get resistivity sections.Samples were collected after resistivity measurements. These samples were analysed by classical physico-chemical methods and performing biochemical methane potential and fiber quantification.Reactor preparation, time of anaerobic degradation, resistivity values, liquid content, methane potential and fiber contcnt data have allowed to establish correlations. These correlations result in a liquid repartition, high methane potential zones and degradations zones in dry batch anaerobic digestion.
