Biogas generation from food wastes by high solid digestion using the horizontal anaerobic reactor
Horizontal anaerobic digestion was used to evaluate the biogas generation from food wastes by anaerobic digestion. The result indicated that the average daily biogas was 10L,27L and 42L when the volume loading rate (VLR) of the reactor was 2gTS/L.d,5gTS/L.d and 8gTS/L.d,respectively.However,it was only 23L when the VLR increased to l lgTS/L.d.The final VFA,alkalinity and VFA/alkalinity were 3798 mg/L,10782 mg/L and 0.35.The amylase activity was relatively stable in the unstable and recovery stage, with the value of 0.09-0.18 U/mL.The variation of protease activity was also stable, and the fluctuation range was 3.62× 10-4-5.27× 10-4 U/mL.The optimum VLR of horizontal reactor was 8 gTS/L.d,and the average biogas yield was 656 mL/gTS from the food wastes.
