Single cell protein production from agricultural and industrial wastewater with simultaneous organics and nutrient removal by purple phototrophic bacteria
Resource recovery from wastewater as high value products has become an integral part ofwastewater treatment.This work presents the potential of anaerobic purple phototrophic bacteria treating a range of industrial wastewaters for the purposes of wastewater treatment and generation of microbial biomass for utilisation as single cell protein.The results show,PPB can simultaneously and efficiently remove COD,TN and TP,while achieving high biomass yields (>70%) and high protein contents (~60%),enabling single cell protein production.
