Effects of biological and chemical pretreatment on anaerobic digestion of corn straw

Corn straw (CS) is large amount and can be used as substrates to produce methane by anaerobic digestion (AD).However, the high content of lignocellulosic components hinders its methane conversion.Pretreatment is used to break the compact fiber crystal structure and improve the methane production. In the study, combined with biological (Trichoderma harzianum and enzyme from T.harzianum) and chemical (NaOH) pretreatment was used before AD.The methane yield increased after pretreated by enzyme, while decreased after pretreated by T.harzianum.NaOH treatment enhanced the enzyme pretreatment effect, and methane production significantly increased.1% NaOH soaked straw pretreated by enzyme produced 4.14% more methane than enzyme treated CS.The optimum pretreatment of CS was as follows: 1% NaOH soaked for 2 days, and washed with tap water to neutral pH,then pretreated by enzyme for 3 days, and the maximum methane yield of 431.77mL/g TS was obtained. This study provides theoretical guidance and technical support for the AD,which is of great significance to the utilization of CS.
