Establishment of anaerobic granule in treating tapioca starch wastewater

  This research was aimed to build-up anaerobic granule with combination of mixed volatile fatty acids (VFA) and chitosan.During granulation,size distribution increased to the range of 0.2-0.4 mm.Specific methanogenic activity and biomass concentration also increased until 0.31 g COD/g VSS.d and 12.4 g VSS/L,respectively.The build-up anaerobic granule was then applied to treat tapioca starch wastewater.After 3 months,the reactor contained anaerobic granule (R2) reached organic loading rate (OLR) of 3.5 kg COD/m3.d,while control reactor (R1) was fail at OLR of 2.5 kg COD/m3.d.Moreover,COD reduction and methane yield of R2 were also higher than another one.
