Low cost digester from a non-interconnected zone: monitoring at real scale
In Latin America, plastic tubular digester is widely used due to its low cost and easy implementation. However, low levels of scientific publications regarding the monitoring of anaerobic digesters at real scale represent a challenge to this technology to be applied. The purpose of this research was to assess the behaviour of anaerobic digestion of cattle manure in a tubular digester under real conditions, and estimate the quality and properties of the digestate.Obtained data, during monitoring, indicated that the digester operation was stable without risk of inhibition and produced on average,0.85 Nm3biogas/d (65.6% methane),which means an energy saving of 76%.On the other hand, digestate presented high contents of nutrients that are important for its use as fertilizer.Nevertheless, this application requires a post-treatment due to the presence of pathogens agents.
