Proper Sewage Sludge Sanitization: Quality Indicators For Biosolid Production
This study aimed verify the digestate quality regarding the legal Brazilian microbiology and physical-chemical guidelines related to its use in agriculture activities.Secondary sludge was treated through an anaerobic digestion process.Heavy metal concentrations were lower than the Brazilian regulatory law for sludge reuse in agriculture,namely CONAMA 375/2006 Act.Zinc (1045 mg/kgTS) and copper (518 mg/kgTS) were those greater among all heavy metals presented in the digestate.Once the volatile solids concentration in the raw sludge was reduced 83% (average value),a great mineral-content digestate was produced therefore.Regarding the pathogens,the digestate could reach the equivalent quality of Class B biosolid: Salmonellae absence,fecal coliform of 3.1 MPN/gTS and 4.3 HE/gTS.These results depicted the waste activated sludge investigated can be used in agriculture as a Class B biosolid.
