Analysis and Improvement of a Wire Harness Terminal Connector with Insufficient Locking Force
Spring terminal is a kind of connector used for the electrical connection of wiring harness, which is convenient to install and has high reliability so as to reduce downtime and maintenance times. How to design its structural parameters to meet the locking force requirements of wire harnesses with different diameters is the key to the spring terminal design. In this paper, the stress analysis by finite element simulation was carried out on the problem of low locking force when a certain type of spring terminal was connected with wire harness with small diameter. It was found that plastic deformation of spring material caused by over-stress design was the main reason of insufficient locking force. The key structural parameters affecting the deformation of the spring terminal were found out by the Castiglianos theorem, and then the parameters of spring terminal were adjusted and checked by simulation. The locking wire force experiments showed that the performance of the improved spring was proved to be in accordance with the design requirements. Finally, the design method of spring terminal structure and the necessity of avoiding overstress were discussed.
