The Influence of Over Travel of Contacts on Arc Erosion under DC Load
One fundamental reason for the failure of contact materials is because of the effect of arc in the process of electrical contact.In order to decrease the arc on the effect of erosion to contact materials as possible, it is very important to decrease the lasting time and bounce times of arc.In this paper, by using the apparatus built by self, the voltage, current, lasting time and bounce times of arc generated under DC Load with different over travel (O.T.) of contact were collected at every operation, and the data of these parameters collected during the whole electrical life were analyzed.The research results affirmed that the bounce times and the energy of arc decreased with increasing O.T.value of contact within a certain range,and it could be explained the function of O.T.value of contacts on the effect of arc erosion characteristic.By using the research result when the relay is designed and assembled, it will be beneficial to improve its electrical life level.
