Investigation of the Contact Welding Failure Phenomena in the Electrical Endurance Experiments
Contact welding failure phenomena, always occurred in the electrical endurance test, can be the enormous obstacle for electromechanical relays with long electrical life and high reliability.Contact welding correlates with the mechanical switching process (including bounce, breaking velocity and contact force and so on) and electrical erosion of material closely.In this paper, the degradation process of static contact force, contact resistance and sliding distance of contacts under resistive load and inrush load in the electrical endurance experiments is compared explicitly.Combining with the SEM pictures of the failed contacts, the physical mechanism of contact welding is proposed.The in-situ simulation experiment method and conclusions are useful for the fault prediction of relays the optimization of contact materials.
