Degradation Modeling and Reliability Evaluation of Key Assembly Parameters of Electromagnetic Relays

  The degraded reliability of in-service elec tronic components has become the main reason for the failure of weapons.Electromagnetic relays are the least reliable components in electronic systems.It is there fore important imperative to evaluate the reliability of in-service electromagnetic relays.Most existing re search on the degraded reliability of relays uses the performance parameters of the whole machine to eva luate the performance degradation.Although such traditional methods for conducting reliability evalua tion and life prediction using the performance para meters of the whole machine have shown to play a role in relay applications, they have no substantial effect on optimizing the relays themselves and improving the service life.The root cause of this is that reliable life evaluation models based on the performance parame ters of the whole machine cannot reflect the reasons for the failure of in-service relays and the out of tolerance values of electrical parameters.Therefore, it is im possible for these traditional methods to fundamentally locate the causes of the poor reliability of relays, and they cannot provide guidance for the design of reliable relays.This paper first analyzes the degradation and failure mechanism of a contact spring system for elec tromagnetic relay under cyclic loading.The perfor mance degradation of the contact spring system is then modelled and analysed using stochastic uncertainty theory.Finally, based on the contact gap degradation model, this paper conducts a reliable life evaluation of the electromagnetic relay by considering the degrada tion of the key assembly parameters of the contact spring system.The research results lay a foundation for the design of reliable electromagnetic relays.
