A Compact Combined Antenna for Pulse Radiation

  A compact combined antenna is proposed for pulse radiation in a UWB radar detection system in this paper.An exponentially tapered TEM horn is selected as the basic structure as well as the main radiated part,and a loading structure is used to improve its performance at low frequencies.Simulation results show that the loading structure generates a new radiator like a bow-tie antenna,decreasing the antenna size while not impacting the excellent radiating characteristics of the TEM horn antenna.The proposed structure has the advantages of wide bandwidth,compact size and high power capacity.As an antenna used for pulse radiation,the transmitted signal has little trailing and high EPP value in the time domain.Finally,the antenna is implemented and measured.The dimension of the antenna is 160mm*330mm* 110mm,and it can work from 250MHz to over 3GHz with the return loss below 7.5dB.
