Diurnal Variations of Ionospheric Electron and Ion Temperature with Altitude measured by EISCAT Svalbard Radar
The EISCAT Svalbard Radar(ESR)provides the measurement of the electron and ion temperature in the polar ionosphere, which is of scientific merits to investigate its energetics variations.Statistical analysis of ESR electron and ion temperature data during the high solar activity years of 2001-2002 was performed. The results as follows:The diurnal and altitude variation of electron and ion temperature is very similar. From the perspective of diurnal variation, they both have the characteristic phenomenon of morning overshoot, daytime valley and evening enhancement. These features show larger values at higher altitudes.Otherwise, when the electron temperature is larger than 1200K,the electron temperature decreases with the increase of electron density.
