Experimental Study of the Protection Effect of the Short-wave RF Front-end Lightning Electromagnetic Pulse Protection Module Based on Switch-type and Voltage Limiting Type Protective Elements
This paper introduces the basic structure and protection effect test result of the short-wave RF front-end lightning electromagnetic pulse protection module based on the switch-type protective element(gas discharge tube,GDT)and voltage limiting type protection element(transient voltage suppressor,TVS),and analyzes the reasons for the waveform difference during measurement of the residual output voltage of the module with a high-voltage probe and an attenuator respectively. The study herein shows that the action delay of the protection module under development is less than 1 ns and its leakage pulse peak is less than 50 V when the lightning electromagnetic pulse with a peak voltage of 10 kV,a rising rate of 10 kV/μs and a peak current of 5 kA is applied, and in addition, the high-voltage probe, when adopted to measure the residual output voltage waveform of the module,is sensitive to the external electromagnetic radiation field, which will produce an interference signal hard to be eliminated, with its amplitude and oscillation period in direct proportion to the area of the high-voltage probe test circuit; while the coaxial attenuator enjoys a higher measurement accuracy.
