Effects of MnZn ferrite doping on magnetic and electrical properties of NiZnCu ferrite toroid cores for power applications
NiZnCu ferrite has been widely used in high-frequency power converters due to its higher electrical resistance than MnZn ferrite. However, the permeability of NiZnCu ferrite is lower than MnZn ferrite. It is possible to get higher permeability and take higher frequency for NiZnCu ferrite by doping with MnZn ferrite. In this paper, the effects of MnZn ferrite doping on magnetic and electrical properties of NiZnCu ferrite toroid cores were investigated. The microstructures of the toroid cores were characterized by SEM.The permeability and inductance versus frequencies and DC-bias were tested by an impedance analyzer. The results show that both the permeability and the inductance versus frequencies and DC-bias are improved by doping appropriate of MnZn ferrite. However, the permeability and the inductance are not further improved when adding more amount of MnZn ferrite. The optimum amount of MnZn ferrite is about 7.5 wt%.
