Investigating Language LearnersAbilities in Online Settings
Internet and Web 2.0 technology has been widely used in language learning. However, researchers found that technology,no matter how intelligent it is,doesnt automatically produce active learning and active engagement with technology doesnt necessarily guarantee effective learning too(Winke & Goertler,2008).Thus this study investigated studentsabilities to self-regulate their online learning process and achievements.530 freshmen from the first grade of a northern university in China participated in the study.A survey and semi-structured interviews were conducted. The results revealed the factors that influenced how proficient the students are in self-regulated learning in online settings and the reasons why they are deficient in some aspects of self-regulated learning.
