A Comparative Study on Attitudinal Association of Metaphor in Organizational Discourse
This paper takes the chair/chief executives speeches in annual reports of Hanban(HB)and British Council(BC)as research materials for a comparative study.Under the appraisal framework, the author explores how attitude is provoked via lexical metaphors in organizational discourse. The analysis indicates that lexical metaphors establish a chain of associations with each other and realize attitudinal meanings through a prosodic accumulation in discourse.By dint of these associations and accumulation, lexical metaphors form one of the most important loci for constituting organizational identity and create emotion-laden contexts for constructing organizational reality.
