On the Differences between Chinese and Western Architectural Cultures-Taking the Imperial Palace and the Palace of Versailles as Examples
Architecture is not only one of the symbols in human civilization,but also the crystallization of human history.Different forms of architecture indicate the social system and mental outlook derived from different cultures.The Imperial Palace is the largest as well as the most complete ancient palace building in the world.It is the essence of ancient Chinese architectural art.As a standard Western architecture,the Palace of Versailles is deeply influenced by Western humanistic thoughts,which emphasizes the power of human beings and is full of religious mysticism.By comparing the differences between the Imperial Palace and the Palace of Versailles in terms of building materials,building structure,building space layout,building decoration and color,we can analyze the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western cultures.
