A Study of Chinese Invitations from the Perspective of Revisited Perlocution
Invitation as a common speech act has unique features in different cultural backgrounds.Since perlocution has more to do with communication in the real sense, this paper makes an attempt to revisit the notion of“perlocution and propose a dynamic and interactive analytical framework for accounting for invitations in Chinese culture. It is shown that such perlocutionary framework can better interpret the invitational conversations in China. It is hoped that this paper can offer a new insight into the long-neglected perlocution and help to better understand the essence of Chinese invitations.
