Study of“i am samin Accordance with Nel Noddingss Caring Theory
Nel Noddings,an American educator,argues that education should not prioritize intellectual development alone but promote the growth of students as healthy,competent,moral people through the philosophy of caring.“i am sam① is a movie about a father whose IQ equals that of a seven-year-old child and a daughter who becomes very smart at seven.It is perceived as impossible for the intellectual-disabled father sam to raise his daughter Lucy; however,sam,through providing love and care for his daughter,proves to everyone that he is a capable father.“i am sam,which embodies Nel Noddings philosophy of care,manifests the optimal effect of the care philosophy in education—a healthy,independent,competent child with true empathy.This article studies the film“i am samin accordance with Nel Noddingss philosophy of care.This philosophy is the primary means to fulfill the overall development of the child and to cultivate true empathy for mankind and the world.
