Teaching of English Rhetorical Devices from the Perspective of Appraisal Theory
Rhetorical devices receives little attention in college English teaching in China and are mainly conducted within the field of rhetoric.Appraisal theory,as a new perspective for rhetorical devices teaching,can not only deepen studentsunderstanding of various figures of speech,but also increase their appreciation of literary works.When applying this theory to practice,teachers should attach great importance to the functions of attitude,gradation and engagement expressed by them,as well as the mode of expression,that is,in what way the speakers or writers evaluation involved in them is expressed.
