A Study on The Survey,Application and Future of Machine Translation
The application of machine translation can be divided into three periods according to its technology and usage. The first period can be called the history and survey period; the linguistic theories are the foundation of translation, computer science and other disciplines are also engaged. The second period can be called the application period and it can be classified into four types: publishing, understanding, communicating and assessing of information, and used in the field of term translation in legal documents, non-literary publications and intelligence materials. However, it also has advantages and disadvantages. The former includes a rapid pace and great amount of work. The latter refers to the fact that machine translation quality is inferior to that of the translators. The third period can be called possible applications, which includes fusion, interactivity, automatic quality assessment and workload estimation. The target is personalization and enhanced work efficiency, ease of use and management.
