Comparative Study of Lipids Extraction from Wet Microalgae Biomass by Microwave Extraction and Conventional Method

  This study offers an alternative method of lipid extraction from wet biomass using the microwave technique.The microalgae Nannochloropsis sp.were cultivated under batch condition at 23 ±0.5oC and pH 8 ± 0.3 and light intensity of 100 mol m-2 s-1.In order to determine the lipid profile on Nannochloropsis sp.,biomass was sampled out and the lipid was extracted daily during the 8 days cultivation and determined gravimetrically.Nannochloropsis sp.lipid extraction was performed using two different types of extraction methods; microwave irradiation and conventional extraction and the total lipid contents were compared.Results indicated that the microwave extraction method is capable of giving higher total lipid content(38.23%)compared to the conventional method(23.01%).
