Polymorphic transformations induced by mechanical activation of sulfamerazine

　　The effect of mechanical activation on the polymorphic transformations of SMZ was investigated.SMZ-I was subjected to cryomilling for different time periods.Powder X-ray diffraction showed that for milling times of 60 min or shorter,the milled product had reduced crystallinity but remained crystalline.Also, the results suggest that intense mechanical activation produces fully amorphous SMZ, capable of nucleating as a favored polymorph without hindrance from, or despite the presence of, seeds crystals of a different polymorph.
